The course ‘Energy Technology’ with 30 participating students went on a field trip from the 12th to the 14th of December in 2016. This gave the students the opportunity to get an insight into the real design of energy generation plants and large industrial consumers.

First, the students visited the large construction site of the BER airport, to examine for instance the energy supply at the airport, after which they were taken to the historic Moabit fluidized-bed thermal power station.

At the Rüdersdorf cement plant, the students learned about cement production and how the energy-intensive industry must adapt to emission trading.

The last day was dedicated to the Lausitzer Braunkohlerevier. There, the open-cast mine ‘Welzow south’ was explored in an adventurous journey, which ended with a visit to the power generator of the power plant ‘Schwarze Pumpe’.
